Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings

You can't hear anything. The door appears to be fairly thick.

Shara heads to the door and tries to open it.

The thick door takes a bit of tugging to budge, but eventually it opens. Just beyond it, no more than a few feet away, four goblins sit around a table in the midst of a meal that seems to consist of salted meat, bread, spirits and a severed human leg. The room is in a poor state. Smashed furniture and shattered glass litters the floor, and there are definite signs of blood having been spilled recently.

After a moment, one of the goblins looks up and sees Shara standing in the doorway.

Roll for initiative!

"This time it had better work" Shara says with bloodlust in her eyes.

Shathys yawns slowly. "Must we do this again?"

"Come on goblins! I'm not afraid of you! My blade and my heart thirst for your blood!!!"

Four goblins armed with short swords are getting ready to chop you to bite-sized pieces, but Shara and Jack are faster to react.

First up: Shara!

"Come get it then!"

Shara gets a wild look in her eyes as she fires up new chaos bolt, this one seems bigger than the ones you've seen before and it divides into four smaller bolt, each of which smashes into your newfound goblin friends. "I'm back." She says, grinning quite manically.

Before the goblins have a chance to do more than look up, they fall to the ground with a fist-sized hole through their chests. Moments later, two more goblins emerge the adjoining rooms, weapons brandished. One wields an over-sized blade in both hands, and another a short sword. The one with the short sword seems to be dressed in better and more decorated armor.

Next up: Jack

"Take out the one with the big ass sword!" Jack yells at his companions as he charges in, his outline shining with a strange light. His sword bites into the skullcleaver and leaves a gash in the goblin's left arm.

Spoiler:

The neither of the goblins are particularly phased by the elf being all up in their grill, and they lay into him with much gusto. The ferocity of their assault catches Jack by surprise, and the Skullcleaver's axe punches straight through Jack's armor as the Underboss stabs him in the leg.

Next up: Morbus

Morbus sprints towards the combat, readies his sword and charges the goblin underboss at full speed. Morbus' fullblade pierces through both the armor and the stomach of the goblin. In the next second, the blade of the massive sword is almost blown out of the back of the goblin who screams in great pain and anger. The goblin is without doubt hurt, but it will take a lot more damage - plenty - to make it collapse. Morbus then screams at the goblins. The underboss isn't affected by the scream, but the skullcleaver is. He gets pushed a couple of feet away from Morbus and looks rather confused.

"Well well well, what have we here?" Shathys walks forward with a cruel gaze in his eyes. Speaking softly, almost musically in the goblin tongue, trying to incite response. "Here come the longshanks!" he sings, as he begins to swing his spiked chain through the air, the blade making a deadly whisk whisk sound as it completes circuit after circuit through the air.

Shathys pauses for a moment, weighing a decision, then leans forward and with great agility begins to weave the spiked chain around himself, lashing out at the Goblin underboss with indeterminable speed, some may say that right then, the Spiked Chain makes snapping sounds as it sings through the air, like those of a great and terrifying predator closing its jaws over prey, some may go further still and say that the shadows around Shathys seem alive, as that of crows in flight.

Shara is smiling, she has regained her joyful spirit after the start of this fight.

Spoiler:

From the back of the room you hear a sizzling sound. It's like something is boiling excessively, but you don't see anything. Soon a globe of yellow liquid forms between Shara's hands. A drop hits the floor with a loud sizzle and you see smoke. The liquid leaves her hands and flies right into the face of the already hurt goblin, causing him much pain. He wont be standing much longer.

"Fine, the short sword first." Jack sneers and lunges for the goblin underboss. The sword punches through what little armor the goblin has and pierces his heart. He then kicks the goblin as he pulls out the sword, now dripping with blood. Jack notices his wounds and moves behind Morbus for the time being where he slowly moves his hand over the wounds, a faint white light outlines his hands as the wounds stop bleeding.

Spoiler:

"He seemed to be the one going down faster" Shara says to Jack.

The last goblin hurls himself at Shathys, the only target in sight, but before it can bring its huge sword to bear, thin threads of blue light appear around its arms and neck, choking it and slicing into its flesh, and stopping the attack from connecting.

Morbus shortly walks away from combat so he can gain as much speed as possible for his charge. Even though the goblin skullcleaver more or less hides behind the wall from where Morbus attacks it, Morbus manages to hit it directly in its left arm as he sprints directly towards it with his blood wet blade. The blood from the goblin is sprayed out of its body through the wound in the arm into thousands and thousand of small red and green tears and drops. They hit the wall in a wet "splash!" the next moment.

Shathys strikes out twice with his spiked chain, cutting deep gashes in the bleeding goblin.

Next up: Shara

Shara moves forward and starts to charge her trusty bolt of chaos and unleash her rage on the last remaining goblin.

Spoiler:

From Shara's hands you hear the screams of hundreds of wild animals. A ball of fog travels towards the goblin at high speed and you can barely make out lions, eagles, hogs and wolves in the white-ish steam. When it hits its target the goblin is ripped to pieces, scratches and bite-mark all over what's left of his body.

Jack slowly breathes out. "They're getting more dangerous, maybe the important looking one has any clues." He searches through the goblins.
