Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings

Morbus lifts his sword over his heads. Within miliseconds the blade whirls through the air seperating all limbs from the body of the dog that grabs him. As a final gesture, Morbus seperate the head from the body. The head turns around in the air several times before it hits the ground next to the body of the now very dead dog. Shortly afterwards Morbus runs towards the last goblin dog on the field without attacking it.

Jack lunges at the last dog but misses completely. The chains persist.

Spoiler:

Shara prepares to send a bolt of acid at the remaining dog.

Spoiler:

The bolt hits the dog's skin with a sizzle. It burns through flesh and bone and the dog looks significantly worse for wear than before.

Reta's lightning bolt misses the dog, kicking up a cloud of dirt next to it.

Shathys stays back for awhile, gathering his strength.

The dog keels over dead.

Jack relaxes a little but tenses up again. "Warforged, what in the nine hells were you thinking?" He hisses. "That was just about the stupidest thing I've seen in a very long time, trying to intimidate guard dogs? Ioun damn it." He puts his thumb and index finger on the bridge of his nose and inhales deeply. "Plough it, please let me handle the tactical decisions next time."

"I'm sorry... I just thought it would be a good idea to attack them like that. I thought you liked combat. I apologize for my impulsive behaviour.", Morbus answers. He looks at Reta in a 'please help me justify my actions'-kind of way. He then walks to the bodies and looks for loot in hope of finding anything that can justify his impulsive behaviour.

Surprisingly, the goblin dogs carry neither gold nor magical items.

Jack shakes his head in weary resignation. "Let's go." Jack continues along the path.

A little further along, the path splits into two. One path to the north and one to the south. A cloying musky scent lies heavy in the air here. A matted nest of red and black hair sits to the south-east. A makeshift door made from brambles and driftwood blocks the path to the north.

'Which way, cap'n?' Reta asks.

"Somehow I think our end goal lies to the north, but we should scout the entire place out." He looks at Shathys. "I need you to scout out whatever lies south, also find out whatever that is." He gestures toward the nest. "No stupid charges this time, people."

Shathys rocks on his haunches, taking a handful of dirt and rubbing it across his hands, silently he rises, then sets off running just as silent, a shadow of death itself, heading towards the nest first.

Just as Shathys reaches the halfway point between the nest and the rest of the group, something moves at the far end of the chamber. A goblin dressed in colorful rags and bleached animal bones steps through the bramble wall as it parts for him. He spits a few words at you, as if summoning some magical assistance, and his hands burst into flames.

'Tangletooth!' he shouts. 'Gogmurt calls you!'

A massive beast leaps over the small goblin and lands with surprising grace between him and Shathys. The creature has the body of a huge panther with fiery red and deep black fur, and the head of an enraged bear.

'Kill!' Gogmurt says, and Tangletooth leaps at Shathys. 300 pounds of muscle, claws and teeth bear down on Shathys, tearing bloody gashes across his torso.

"Well, shit." Jack runs into the fray, cutting at the bear but the tough hide holds. "Take out the goblin, I'll keep the bear busy!" He yells.

"Righto!", Morbus says as he leaps into combat. He plants his sword in the shoulder of the goblin.

Spoiler:

Reta skirts around Tangletooth, keeping out of reach of its wicked claws. She swings her short staff in a half circle, and a small orb of lightning zaps Gogmurt in the chest. He doesn't seem particularly phased by it.

Gogmurt jumps away from Morbus, grins and snaps his fingers. 'Dance, longshanks,' he growls as fire erupts around Morbus' feet.

Next up: Shathys

Shathys looks Tangletooth in the eye and smirks, disappearing from sight, He then reappears behind Tangletooth, facing the Goblin Wizard Gogmurt.

"Die." Shathys says simply, and begins laying into Gogmurt, tearing flesh from bone as he whips and slashes the goblin deeply over and over.

Spoiler:

Shara locks her eyes on the target, the goblin commanding the rather large bear. She prepares to inflict heavy damage.

Spoiler:

Prepared or not, the attack she thought was going to grill some goblin ass is a total failure. All you hear is a sizzle from her palms.
