Shara and Morbus join you, and the halfing maid arrives with breakfast. Other than her, you are alone in the room.

It's fairly obvious that the maid is distraught. She seems constantly on the verge of saying something, but keeps stopping herself.

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings

Bethana jumps in surprise and blushes. 'I apologize sir, it's not proper to bother the guests, it's just...' She takes a deep breath, steeling herself. 'Miss Ameiko is missing. I woke up earlier this morning and found that, for the first time since I can remember, Miss Ameiko hadn’t started breakfast. Even after a night of drinking too much, she always gets up to prepare breakfast! Worried, I knocked on Miss Ameiko's door but didn’t get a response. Against my better judgment, I entered her room to find it empty and the bed un-slept in.' Hesitantly she produces a folded piece of parchment and hands it to Jack. 'I found this. It's a note from Miss Ameiko's older brother Tsuto.'

Spoiler:

The letter is written in a language you don't understand. 'It's written in Miss Ameiko's native tongue,' Bethana explains. 'Likely to keep prying eyes from reading it. Miss Ameiko has been teaching me the language over the last few years. I've translated it on the opposite side, sir.'

Spoiler:

Bethana talks as you read.

'Tsuto was something of a scandal when he was born 21 years ago, since he’s a half-elf. Neither of Ameiko’s parents are elves, you see,' Bethana sagely notes with big eyes. 'It was obvious that old Lonjiku wasn’t the boy’s father, and his rage at the discovery of his wife’s indiscretion was the talk of the town for months. Lonjiku’s wife Atsuii never revealed who the father was, and it’s a real testament to Lonjiku’s stubbornness that they remained married. Tsuto was handed over to the Turandarok Academy to be raised outside of the Kaijitsu family, ignored by his father and forbidden visits from his mother. Miss Ameiko visited him in secret a few times a month to keep him company, bring him some food, and promise him that someday things would get all sorted out.'

Her voice drops to a whisper. 'But that all changed six years ago, when they had a terrible argument and Tsuto struck Ameiko. I don't know what the argument was about, but whatever it was it sent Ameiko away from Sandpoint for a year. She made a living as an adventurer, you know. She's very brave. She returned to Sandpoint five years ago to attend her mother’s funeral. Tsuto claimed that his father had pushed Atsuii off the cliff to her death, and during the funeral there was a confrontation. Lonjiku nearly broke Tsuto’s jaw with his cane, after which Tsuto cursed him and left Sandpoint. Miss Ameiko’s tried to reestablish contact with him ever since, but was never able to track him down. I'm worried that Tsuto's up to no good, and since Sheriff Hemlock is out of town, you're the only ones I can turn to. I beg you, please investigate the Glassworks and find out what happened to Miss Ameiko.'

Jack sighs. "I guess goblin killing time will have to wait." he mumbles. He straightens up and smiles at the halfling. "Don't worry little miss, you said it yourself: She's very brave. I'm sure she's safe and sound. But we'll check it out."

Shathys wraps his blindfold slowly over his eyes. Spiked Chain wickedly sharp from its recent attention.

"Our elf tracker may prove useful here. Then we hunt goblins." Shathys smiles suddenly, a wolflike grin. "Today is going to be a good day."

Scant minutes later, you arrive at Sandpoint Glassworks. It's a large building with very ornate, colorful and tinted windows. Smoke billows from a chimney, but the place is otherwise silent. You can see two front entrances, one on your right and one on your left, as well as a side entrance and a back entrance. All are closed.

Spoiler:
Location 20 on the map.

"Let's do this." Shathys says with a smile on his face. Almost too joyful at the prospect of a fight

"I guess any door will do. Lets go, Ameiko doesn't usually keep us waiting, we shouldn't do it to her."

Shara heads for the door closest to her and examines it for traps and the like.

Spoiler:
Since Shara grew up in the city, the traps she knows about are those planted by people in other peoples' homes. Hence the streetwise. Can i do that?

Streetwise check for traps = 6 + 9 = 15
